Behind the Scenes: Scene Facts: Boarding
- This scene was "flopped" since only the starboard side of the ship set was built. The scene was filmed "backward" then reversed for the movie. This required all text (on hats, trucks, buildings, etc.) to resemble a mirror image.
- Cameron mimicked the black and white to color effects of his favorite film, The Wizard of Oz. Watch the contrast between the muted colors of the present day scenes and the bright colors of 1912. Also, the bright colors worn by the first class passengers versus the drab colors of the second and third class -- accurate for 1912 clothing.
- Young Rose dressed in a stunning white and purple outfit, with an enormous feathered hat -- the large hat is symbolic of the oppression Rose feels, as is the walk up the elevated boarding bridge a few minutes later.
- The name of the character Caledon Hockley derives from two small towns (Caledon and Hockley) near Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, where Cameron's aunt and uncle live.
- Rose says, "I don't see what all the fuss is about. It doesn't look any bigger than the Mauritania" -- the Mauritania was the largest luxury liner in the world prior to Titanic.
- A strip of desert is visible between the dock and the Titanic when docked at Southampton.
- Cal states that they are staying in the parlor suites B-52,54 and 56. On the maiden voyage, these rooms were to be occupied by J.M. Morgan. When he didn't show up for the sailing, J. Bruce Ismay took over these rooms.
- Arnold Swartznegger and Tom Arnold were extras the day of the Southampton scene. They are both good friends of Cameron's and had stopped down to see his new movie. Rumor has it that they both tressed up and were extras for a day.
- Bert Cartmell is portrayed by one of the stuntmen, Rocky Taylor.
- Often noted as an error, Cal comes out of the same car as Rose and Ruth, not the second car,
that is carrying Lovejoy, and maid Trudy.
