1975 - 1st class survivor Miss Edith Louise Rosenbaum died in London England, UK at the age of 97.

1885 - 1st class survivor Mrs Mary Hélène Douglas was born to James ("Diamond Jim") Baxter (diamond broker and banker) and Hélène de Lanaudière Chaput Baxter in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

1935 - 2nd class survivor Mrs Argene Del Carlo married Sebastiano del Carlo, who was also on the Titanic, in Altopascio, Lucca, Italy.

1974 - 3rd class survivor Miss Laura Mae Cribb died of cerebral thrombosis (stroke) in New Mexico, USA at the age of 78.

Brock Lovett's character was based upon a modern day pirate whom ended up dying looking for treasure on a sunken ship.
Louis Bodine is actually Lewis Abernathy, longtime friend of James Cameron. Lewis, as a joke, wrote a screenplay about Titanic for James for his birthday. Lewis, whom is a known "rivet-counter" and at one time was the youngest member of the Titanic Historical Society, thought that a "good" movie needed to be made of Titanic. He never believed that James would take to the idea though. James then wrote the screenplay for Titanic, and wrote in Bodine to represent Abernathy. After numerous screenings, James discovered that Abernathy was the only man who could play the part. Abernathy also helped James recreate the Titanic as accurately as possible.
This was the second section of the movie filmed. First the underwater glimpses of Titanic, then the modern day story.
There is no such thing as the Heart of The Ocean, and nothing near its value sank with the Titanic.
The sketch was coated in clear gel so it could be submersed without visible damage.
The sketch would have survived, for most paper items that are recovered from the wreckage survived due to the fact they were encased in leather.
On-set painter Marilyn McAvoy created the "aging" of the contents of Cal’s safe.
