Behind the Scenes: Scene Facts: The Woman in the Picture
- Rose, in her old age, owns a Pomeranian. A Pomeranian was one of only three dogs known to have survived the disaster. As the real ship sank, a passenger freed dogs from their kennels, and a survivor later recalled a French bulldog swimming in the ocean. Cameron filmed scenes portraying the doomed animals but cut them.
- Cameron modeled Old Rose after 103-year old sculptress Beatrice Wood of Ojai California.
- Rose's name comes from Cameron's grandmother.
- Originally Cameron wanted to have a survivor play this part, but found that most of the survivors either were too young to remember the sinking or too frail to survive the long trip and shooting hours.
- Although the camera pans over photographs in Old Rose's house, any pictures that Old Rose carried with
her on the Keldysh are not shown until the end of the movie.
- During test screening, it was discovered that many viewers didn't know the band played to the end. Cameron decided to add a few lines about the band to the television interview with Lovett.
